(Otogi Banashi):  Otogi Banashi made a quick entrance and, after Arima greeted the fans, began their set with ロードムービー and the charming ballad シンデレラ. Things began to pick up with ネムイ x 眠くない, which they followed with the crowd favorite ネオンBOYS (during which Maekoshi (Dr.) got a chance to stretch his vocal chords). Then after running through 遺伝子, Arima delivered a tirade about THE BEATMOTORS (well mostly their bassist, Johnny), finally declaring the two-man a night of superstars, a semi-appropriate introduction to their next song, superstar. They transitioned directly from THANK YOU to ピーターラビット, which included some great count-offs by Maekoshi, who then grabbed a hand mic and delivered an impromptu vocal solo (こんばんはー! 一緒に踊ろうぜー!, then as an afterthought, ビートモーターズもー! As he finished, Arima broke in with a member introduction, pretending several times to forget bassist Kazama Hirotaka’s name, before finishing their set with WHITE SONG and AMAZING LIGHT.

Setlist:
4. ネオンBOYS
6. superstar
7. THANK YOU
9. WHITE SONG
10. AMAZING LIGHT

(THE BEATMOTORS):  THE BEATMOTORS are like a never-ending hit parade, and they got right to it delivering their first 4 songs back-to-back before pausing to thank the audience and shift gears for 車なのさ. They paired ボーイフレンド and ガールフレンド, then Akiba talked about Otogi Banashi (finally declaring them a ‘good band’) while they tuned for あのこにキッス. ちくちく exploded after another long MC, and they used that momentum to power straight through their last 3 songs. After ending their set on ばらいろの世界, THE BEATMOTORS returned with Otogi Banashi’s Ushio (Gt.) and Arima in toe and the 6 of them performed a solid cover of While My Guitar Gently Weeps for the encore.

Setlist:
4. 時代 (New Song)

Encore (with Arima Kazuki and Ushio Kenta (Otogi Banashi))

9/18 your gold, my pink presents “ザ・対決シリーズ” 「マイ・サタン・イズ・サッドマシーン」@下北沢SHELTER

ART-SCHOOL: SHELTER was packed with ART-SCHOOL fans and the entire room started to sway as they began their set, turning everything from the area in front of the stage all the way to the back wall into a giant pit. The atmosphere was completely different from any other show I’ve seen them play, there was no need to populate the setlist with singles or songs from their latest album so they just played. Rikki didn’t spend a lot of time on MCs, a fan congratulated them on their RIJF set and he chuckled, asking why there’s always one loud guy in the audience. It was a long set, but Toddy and Uno were constantly playing to the crowd, coming to the edge of the stage as they played. During their last song Rikki banged his guitar against the ceiling and then dove into the crowd, returning to the stage amidst waves of distortion for one final burst of noise before the band uniformly dropped their instruments and exited the stage.

your gold, my pink: I had been meaning to see ygmp for quite sometime and I’m really glad that I finally had the chance. Vocal and guitar duties were shared by Kozuka Takahiro and Itamachi Ryosuke (the former also handling the band’s various synthesizers), while Kitano Aiko provided the band’s unique rhythms with occasional assistance on percussion from bassist Kakimori Masayoshi. Kozuka did a great job of hyping up the crowd and Itamachi covered the stage, holding impromptu jam sessions with the other members whenever he wasn’t needed at his microphone. About halfway through their set they played a really pretty new ballad, 初恋, but the highlight came when they ended with Are You Sensitive?, an upbeat clusterfuck of awesome during which Kozuka gathered every available percussion instrument (tambourines, bongos, bells, etc.), handing them out to the crowd before taking his guitar and jumping down to the center of the floor where he finished the song. When they returned for the encore, Itamachi again thanked ART-SCHOOL and mentioned that they had named the event “My satan is SAD MACHINE” using a mash-up of the two bands’ song titles. Then after complaining that サッドマシーン wasn’t on the setlist that night (and being interrupted by Rikki, who was watching from backstage), they launched into a special cover version of the ART-SCHOOL classic.

UPDATE: Smashing Mag has posted a live report with some fantastic pictures here, setlist updated to include the tentative titles of new songs.

10 unrecorded new songs that 踊ってばかりの国 played during their oneman tour final at SHELTER:

  1. !!!:  Repeated counts of “One, two, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5…” and a slight reggae vibe.
An upbeat sway-along song punctuated with some nice electric guitar trills.
Contains a steady, driving drum beat throughout, occasionally speeding up and slowing down for variation.
This song’s intro (with tambourine) reminds me of Shiseido’s FOG BAR commercials, “do da dum dum dum dum dum”.
This song starts out quietly, with long drawn out phrases and builds into a heavy wall of screaming reverb.
  6. EDEN:  Cool rock song with an interesting instrumental jam at the end.
Upbeat with folksy vocals, and a catchy chorus.
Amazing, it begins with a simple melody that’s completely taken over by the electric guitar and then reemerges atop a wave of distortion and shouts of “どこに!?どこに行ったの!?”
  9. セレナーデ:  Catchy beat, with 80’s synth pop influences.
  10. Fast verses, and a quick chorus that ends on “oh oh oh oh”.
